Storm Sunsets
The Story
‘Storm Sunsets’ is a sculptural lighting installation that vividly captures the interplay of colour, temperature, and light that is inherent in stormy atmospheres and rich sunsets.
Commissioned by PRS Architects, this bold and vibrant display is meticulously crafted by Rock & Soar, cascading elegantly down six levels of a spiral staircase within a corporate building located in Bank, London.
The installation draws inspiration from the mesmerising beauty of thunderstorms and sunsets, where bold hues and contrasting light and shadow create dramatic visual effects. This piece aims to evoke the powerful and emotional response that such natural phenomena elicit, encapsulating their energy and beauty within a series of unique, handmade glass globes.
The globes feature transparent swirls of oranges and blues, merging together to form a dynamic and atmospheric scenery within each piece. The diameters of these globes vary from 150mm to 400mm, creating a sense of progression and scale as one moves down the staircase.
The globes are suspended with elegant gold-plated top fixings, which not only provide a secure mount but also enhance the luxurious aesthetic of the installation. The composition is carefully scattered, allowing each globe to occupy its own space and enabling viewers to appreciate the intricate details up close.
The installation is designed to draw the viewer's eye downward, with smaller glass pieces displayed at the top of the staircase, gradually increasing in size as they descend. This arrangement not only adds to the visual impact but also creates a dynamic sense of movement. The globes are adorned by our standard gold-plated droplet light units, part of the 'Storm' collection.
‘Storm Sunsets’ is an unapologetically daring and vibrant installation that transforms a corporate staircase into an experiential journey through stormy skies. The meticulous craftsmanship, combined with the thoughtful arrangement and lighting, creates a powerful visual statement that is both functional and artistic. This installation stands as a testament to the beauty of natural phenomena, skilfully captured and reimagined within a contemporary architectural context.
